Originally submitted as a Master of Arts thesis, this study traces the history of the 14th Canadian Army Tank Regiment (The Calgary Regiment (Tank)) from its mobilization and training in Canada and Britain to its first combat during the Dieppe Raid of 19 August 1942. A substantial section reconstructs the actions of the regiment's individual Churchill tanks during the operation, examining planning, intelligence, engineering preparations, and the tactical employment of armour in the assault. The concluding chapters follow the regiment's reorganization after Dieppe, the experiences of its prisoners of war, and its subsequent service in Italy and North-West Europe. Includes maps, photographs, notes, bibliography, and appendices.
