Notes

A regional study of the Dore and Smoothstone Lakes district, situated northeast of Meadow Lake and a short distance south of Beauval. Issued under the auspices of the Dore / Smoothstone Lakes Wilderness Protection Association, the volume was conceived in response to growing public concern over clear-cut logging in the region—particularly its long-term sustainability and its impact on local biodiversity.

As outlined in the editors’ introduction, the work aims to assemble reliable information on the area’s natural environment and the consequences of large-scale forestry activity. To that end, the publication brings together material on local plant and animal life, traditional and contemporary human uses of the region, and the potential ecological effects of intensive logging.
