Notes

A history of river operations during the 1885 North-West Resistance, this book explores how sternwheelers on the North and South Saskatchewan Rivers influenced the course of the campaign. Tolton outlines the rise of the prairie steamboat trade—much of it under Hudson’s Bay Company ownership. He then details how these boats were enlisted to move soldiers and supplies during the rebellion, including the SS Northcote’s abortive role in the fighting at Batoche.
