Notes

In the 1950s, SaskPower created Penny Powers, a home economist character, to promote rural electrification in Saskatchewan. Portrayed by several women, Penny toured fairs and schools teaching rural families—especially women—about the safe and efficient use of new electrical appliances. Her demonstrations and cookbooks encouraged modern, electric living as part of SaskPower’s campaign to bring electricity to rural homes.

Cookbooks and pamphlets were also created and featured recipes, kitchen tips, and advice on using electric appliances in everyday life
