Notes

This volume is a study of the murals commissioned for the Vista Dome cars of Canadian Pacific Railway’s “The Canadian” passenger train. In 1953 the Budd Company of Philadelphia constructed a fleet of stainless steel railcars for Canadian Pacific, including eighteen Vista Dome (The Park Cars) observation cars decorated with landscape murals depicting scenes from provincial and national parks across Canada. The volume examines the murals and the artists selected to produce them, including Walter J. Phillips, E. J. Hughes, Robert Wakeham Pilot, A. Y. Jackson, A. J. Casson, Edwin H. Holgate, Lawren Harris, and others associated with Canadian landscape painting.
