Notes

This slim volume (part of the Gabriel Dumont Institute’s “Métis Historical Booklet” series) covers the life of Louis Riel, focussing particularly on his role as a leader of Red River Métis resistance before and during the 1885 North-West Resistance. Author Joanne Pelletier summarizes Riel’s student life, then traces his travels in Canada and the United States. She explains Riel’s suitability as a leader of the North-West Resistance and documents his role in the Resistance’s battles, closing with his arrest and execution. Large photographs and excerpts from period correspondence appear throughout the volume.
