Leaves From The Medicine Tree : A History Of The Area Influenced By The Tree, And Biographies Of Pioneers And Old Timers Who Came Under Its Spell Prior To 1900

Compiled by the Historical Committee of the High River Pioneers' and Oldtimers' Association, this volume documents the settlement and early development of the district extending east and west of the old trail between The Leavings and Sheep Creek. It traces the lives of settlers, ranchers, traders, and others associated with the region prior to 1900, with extensive biographical sketches of pioneers and early residents. The work also examines Indigenous use of the area, the Medicine Tree revered by the area First Nations, the whiskey trade, early ranching and agriculture, and North-West Mounted Police patrols.
