Notes

Gnadenthal, Manitoba is a small, unincorporated rural Mennonite community in southern Manitoba’s Pembina Valley, part of the Municipality of Rhineland. It was founded in 1880 during the Mennonite settlement of the West Reserve by immigrants from Russia, and its name means “valley of grace.”

The community developed as an agricultural village centered on Mennonite faith, language, and traditions. In the early 1920s, many residents temporarily emigrated to Mexico over schooling and cultural issues, after which the village was gradually re-established. Today, Gnadenthal remains a quiet farming settlement located near Winkler, Morden, and Altona.
