Notes

Red Crow, a prominent Kainai leader of the Blackfoot Confederacy, distinguished himself first as a formidable warrior and later as a respected statesman. Serving as Head Chief of the Kainai from roughly 1870 to 1900, he guided his community through the profound transition to reserve life and was among the signatories of Treaty 7 in 1877.

This 32-page booklet presents selected portions of Red Crow’s reminiscences as recounted in 1891 to R. N. Wilson of the North-West Mounted Police. Published by the Department of Curriculum at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, it provides students with a brief window into his experiences and leadership.
