A community history centred on Cumberland School District No. 1616, a rural school situated a short distance from Delburne, Alberta. Although the school—established in 1908 and closed in 1958—forms the focus of the volume, direct discussion of its operation, staff, and daily life is relatively limited. Instead, the work functions chiefly as a collection family histories contributed by residents, former residents and descendants of early settlers. 

No publication date is stated. Internal evidence indicates a date of issue no earlier than 1978, as reference is made to a Cumberland School reunion held that year.
