Notes

Bridges: A Book of Legacies for Saskatchewan People of German-Speaking Backgrounds, by Brian McKinstry, is a publication of the Saskatchewan German Council Inc. and reflects the Council’s mandate to promote and preserve the heritage, language, culture, and customs of German-speaking peoples in the province. The book brings together a range of chapters addressing both historical and contemporary themes, including an overview of the SGC, a survey of the past, and essays celebrating German cultural life in Saskatchewan. Specific sections examine the work of painter Berthold Imhoff, changing perceptions of Germany and German-Canadians, and the development of German settlements and communities across the province. The largest portion of the volume is devoted to profiles of member clubs and organizations actively involved in sustaining German language and culture.
