Notes

An account of the 1931 miners' strike in the Bienfait and Estevan coalfields of southern Saskatchewan, examining the economic conditions, labour organization, and industrial relations that led to the dispute and its violent suppression. Drawing extensively on oral testimony and archival sources, Stephen L. Endicott reconstructs the strike, the parade in Estevan during which three miners were killed, the subsequent police action, court proceedings, and the longer-term development of union organization in the coalfields. Includes photographs, appendices, notes, an annotated bibliography, and index.
