Notes

This book contains histories of United Church of Canada congregations in southern Alberta’s Eastern Irrigation District (between the Red Deer and Bow Rivers), including churches at Bow City, Bow Slope, Brooks, Duchess, Eyremore, One Tree, Patricia, Rainier, Rolling Hills, Scandia, and Tilley. The volume opens by describing the arrival of homesteaders and Methodist ministers in the region in the early 1900s. Hutton then goes on to describe the emergence, growth, and – in some cases – decline of individual congregations. Brooks United Church receives particular attention, with Hutton tracing its leadership, youth groups, buildings, and role in Presbytery/Conference events. Throughout, the book draws on church records to identify major figures, challenges, and events that shaped United Church activity in the Brooks and Bow River area. Includes index.
