Notes

Following a 1973 study of prejudice in Saskatchewan social studies textbooks, the Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission determined that Métis and First Nations groups were portrayed unfavorably. To offer a more positive perspective on Métis and First Nations history, the Commission created this pictorial history. The volume contains portraits and brief biographies of 24 Métis and First Nations women and men who either played significant roles in history or who were successful contemporary figures. Activism and political involvement are persistent themes. Figures range from North-West Resistance leader Louis Riel to author Maria Campbell.
