Notes

This booklet celebrates William Lyon Mackenzie King's political career as Canada’s longest serving Prime Minister (as MP for Prince Albert, Saskatchewan 1926-1945) near the end of his final period in office. In it, Paul Martin Sr. (a Liberal MP under King) provides a biography of King’s life in politics. Moving quickly through King’s early life and education, Martin describes King’s appointment to lead Canada’s Liberal party in 1919 and three stretches as Prime Minister (1921-1926, 1926-1930, and 1935-1948). King’s efforts to combat the effects of the Great Depression, leadership during WWII, and plans to strengthen Canada’s economy at the war’s end figure prominently in Martin’s adulatory partisan prose. Tributes from national and international politicians also appear.
