Notes

A concise (50 pages) local history of Buffalo Narrows, a community situated in northwestern Saskatchewan, approximately 425 km northwest of Prince Albert and bordered by Churchill Lake and Little Peter Pond Lake, with access to Big Peter Pond Lake. Published in 1981, the volume opens with a chapter on the pre-1885 historical background, followed by an account of the first permanent settlers (1895–1940) and a series of brief biographical sketches of several early residents. Subsequent chapters address the region’s principal economic and social activities—trapping, commercial fishing, mink ranching, transportation, communication, and power—along with institutional services (government, education, hospital, churches, law enforcement, credit union, local newspapers, Boy Scouts, Métis Society). Further sections cover sawmills, stores, hotels, cafés, and theatres. The book concludes with a survey of “Buffalo Narrows Today.”
