Ownership stamp to the front endpaper, with an embossed plastic name strip affixed to the same leaf. A pencilled list of page references on the leaf following the blank front endpaper corresponds to numerous ink annotations scattered throughout the text, likely added by a previous owner and visually intrusive. Backstrip creased, probably from use and repeated laying open of the thick volume.

Notes

A community history of Herbert, Saskatchewan, a town situated along the Trans-Canada Highway east of Swift Current. The volume opens with an account of the region prior to settlement, followed by a brief treatment of the earliest settlers, and then departs from the conventional format of local histories. Rather than organizing material by family, the compilers present a strictly chronological narrative of both the town and its surrounding rural district, with individual chapters devoted to each year from 1903 to 1987. The focus is on shared community experience, recording public events, everyday activities, achievements, and hardships as they unfolded collectively over time. Family histories are Not included.
