Canadian North-West Historical Society Publications Vol. 1 No. 4 Part 1. The Canadian North-West Historical Society was founded in 1924 (as the Battleford Historical Society) to preserve the Battleford area’s history, in part by publishing accounts of life in the region prior to 1890. This volume collects histories, stories, and reminiscences about the emergence of newspapers and the press in the North-West during the mid/late 1800s. Newspapers covered include the Lethbridge News, the Macleod Gazette, the Medicine Hat Times, the Nor’Wester (Red River), the Prince Albert Times, the Regina Leader, and the Saskatchewan Herald (Battleford). Each of the 13 authors, however, refers to other papers, creating a constellation of historical press endeavors across western Canada. Journalist Howard Angus Kennedy also contributes an account of covering the 1885 North-West Resistance. Peel(3) 1466.
