Notes

Canadian North-West Historical Society Publications Vol. 1 No. 7. The Canadian North-West Historical Society was founded in 1924 (as the Battleford Historical Society) to preserve the Battleford area’s history, in part by publishing accounts of life in the region prior to 1890. This volume details the activities of the Alberta Field Force during the 1885 North-West Resistance. Jamieson contextualizes the militia’s mobilization by describing growing fear in Calgary and Edmonton as conflict between First Nations/Métis groups and the government turned violent. He details the Force’s gathering and component groups, then turns to the Force’s engagements as they marched east through Fort Pitt, Frenchman Butte, and Loon Lake. Finally, Jamieson sketches the Force’s duties under General Middleton’s command. The volume includes brief personal statements by individuals who served in or encountered the Force. Peel(3) 1471.
