Arthur E. Popple (1887-1966) was an Edmonton lawyer who practiced law in the Alberta attorney-general’s office, privately, and as a city prosecutor (Peel3, 830). This volume offers a topical overview of provincial civil and property (but not criminal) law in Alberta, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan. Topics are organized alphabetically and divided into smaller subsections, each of which is explained using lay terms. Differences between provinces are indicated as needed. Laws relating to agriculture – “Farm Loans,” “Grain,” “Stray Animals,” etc. – are plentiful, and the volume is a time capsule of social and civil relations in the early 1900s – see “Master and Servant” or “Women’s Rights.” Includes index.
