Notes

William Perehudoff (1919-2013) was a Saskatchewan artist whose colour field paintings made him one of Canada’s best-known Modernist artists. Born in Langham, Perehudoff’s artistic connection to Saskatchewan pervaded his career – he painted murals for Saskatoon buildings, attended Emma Lake Artists Workshops, and was art director for Modern Press (contributing illustrations to books as well as the Western Producer). This exhibition catalogue from a Mendel Art Gallery exhibit celebrates Perehudoff’s career, particularly his abstract paintings. Three essays by exhibit curators (each in English and French, with photos) analyzing Perehudoff’s style and place in Canadian art complement the volume’s 62 plates.
