Notes

The Historical Arms series published more than 40 reference books and booklets regarding North American and British arms, artillery, and military equipment. In this series volume (No. 6), Roger Phillips and S. J. Kirby describe the handguns and rifles used by the North-West Mounted Police between 1873 and the mid-1960s. The authors go into considerable detail regarding each weapon’s specifications, markings, years and locations issued, and function within the RCMP’s arsenal. Phillips and Kirby also describe the historical circumstances that led to changes of armament. A brief but meticulous guide for identifying or understanding small arms issued to RCMP officers prior to 1965.
