Notes

Robert Hurley (1894–1980), celebrated as Saskatchewan’s “sky painter,” was a self-taught watercolourist known for his depictions of the prairie landscape. Emigrating from England to Canada in 1923, he drew lifelong inspiration from Saskatchewan’s open plains and vast skies.
In the Preface, author Jean Swanson notes that Sky Painter is meant to be an informal biography of a beloved artist, rather than an in-depth critical study of his work.
