Notes

Richard Moldenbauer, Interim Director of the Mendel Art Gallery writes in the Introduction "Plain Truth surveys the work of studio photographers and filmmakers who represented the Canadian West between 1858 and 1950. While the early photographers of Eastern Canada and the United States have been extensively documented in books and exhibitions, much of the production of their counterparts in the Canadian West remains largely unknown to the general public,. This exhibition continues Mendel Art Gallery's commitment to critically asses material culture of the Western region in relation to the visual production of artists and photographers that we initiated in the 1993 exhibition The Urban Prairie." Includes essays by curators Dan Ring, and Keith Bell and guest writer Shelia Petty.
