Notes

In this volume, Frank Gerein provides a carefully organized history of the Catholic Archdiocese of Regina’s first fifty years. He begins by sketching the wider context of European Catholic missions in the North-West during the fur trade, then offers a succinct history of the Archdiocese’s creation and expanding influence. Gerein collects and organizes descriptions and histories of an array of Archbishops and administrators, male and female religious communities, Deaneries, and Catholic initiatives (especially educational) in the province. While sections vary in length due to available information, the volume’s coverage of Catholic institutions throughout southern Saskatchewan is broad. Text in English, although pp.258-260 include brief sections in French, Hungarian, German, and Polish regarding Catholicism’s history in Saskatchewan.
