This volume contains papers presented by scholars, government officials, and consultants at an October 1983 Prairie Futures Conference held in Regina, Saskatchewan. The conference’s participants analyzed present resource use and settlement patterns on Canada's prairies, predicted changes or trends over the next two decades, and made recommendations based on their projections. Subjects range from calling for greater wildlife protection to projecting increases in agricultural water use to forecasting slower growth of major population centers. The papers all include reference lists and many include charts, graphs, or maps. Taken together, the volume offers a critical look at future prairie life based on studies of the past and present.
