Notes

This collection gathers columns first printed in the Regina Leader-Post in 1948 and 1949, together with pieces not previously published. Written during Tyre’s tenure as reporter, columnist, and provincial editor, the book records his travels the length of Saskatchewan.

Moving from cities, small towns to open stretches of prairie road, Tyre reports on the people and communities he encounters, mixing observation with humour and commentary. A handful of sketches extend beyond the provincial boundary into neighbouring towns in North Dakota and Montana. The result is a mid-century portrait of Saskatchewan seen through a working journalist’s eye, combining local colour, anecdote, and reflection.

T. C. Douglas, Premier of Saskatchewan, and leader of the provincial CCF, contributes the Preface.
