Notes

This volume presents a selection of oral traditions from the Rock Cree (Rock Creek Cree) of northwestern Manitoba. Drawing from diverse narrative forms—acadohkiwina (traditional stories) and acimowina (personal narratives or histories)—the collection includes accounts of the trickster-transformer Wisahkicahk, animal-human beings, spirit helpers, the fearsome wihtikow (cannibal monster), episodes of sorcery, humorous incidents, and early encounters with Catholic missionaries. Each narrative is accompanied by interpretive commentary and comparative notes.
