Notes

True-crime account of the life and crimes of RCMP Sergeant John Wilson, reconstructed from contemporary records. The narrative traces Wilson’s emigration from Scotland to Canada in 1912, his enlistment in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police during the First World War, and his double life on the Prairie West. After leaving his wife and children behind, Wilson became involved with another woman in Saskatchewan, entering into a bigamous marriage. When his first wife travelled to Canada in 1918 to confront him, she was murdered. The book follows the investigation, highly publicized trial, and Wilson’s conviction and execution in 1919.
