Walter Gretzky: On Family, Hockey and Healing is the memoir of Walter Gretzky, father of hockey player Wayne Gretzky. Gretzky recounts his childhood on a family farm, his marriage to Phyllis, and the raising of their five children in Brantford, Ontario, while working as a telephone repairman. He also discusses his involvement in hockey and the development of Wayne’s early career. A substantial portion of the memoir concerns the stroke and aneurysm he suffered in 1991, the resulting cognitive and memory difficulties, and his subsequent rehabilitation.
