Notes

A pamphlet published by the Saskatchewan Federation of Labour chronicling the development of Saskatchewan's universal, publicly administered medical care insurance plan, from its initial proposal in 1959 through its acceptance in 1962 by the Saskatchewan College of Physicians and Surgeons, following the dispute that culminated in the Saskatchewan doctors' strike. The pamphlet presents a strongly supportive account of the introduction of Medicare, with passing criticism of political opposition to the plan and of physicians who withdrew their services in protest. The final two pages reprint excerpts from editorials in Canadian and international newspapers critical of the Saskatchewan doctors' action.
