Notes

Founded in 1937 by Calgary radio reporter Carl Nickle, Nickle’s Daily Oil Bulletin began as a one-man operation dedicated to providing timely, detailed reporting on the emerging oil and gas industry in Western Canada. Serving simultaneously as publisher, editor, reporter, and salesman, Nickle launched the bulletin as a daily industry newssheet, offering essential updates and analysis to a growing readership within the oilpatch.

This 50th Anniversary Edition commemorates five decades of the Bulletin’s continuous publication. The volume opens with an extensive forty page introduction chronicling the Bulletin’s origins and evolution, while reflecting on its role as a critical observer and chronicler of the western Canadian energy sector. The remainder of the book presents a curated selection of reprinted issues, arranged chronologically from 1937 to 1987, capturing key developments, landmark discoveries, and pivotal moments in the history of the oil and gas industry in the region.
