Notes

Historical study of the influenza pandemic of 1918–1919 using Winnipeg as a case study. The author examines the social and institutional impact of the epidemic in a city marked by class and ethnic divisions, considering its effects on families, public health systems, and community organizations. Drawing on a wide range of primary sources, including newspapers and welfare and relief records, the work also explores the relationship between the pandemic and broader social tensions, including those associated with the Winnipeg General Strike of 1919. At the time of publication the author was an assistant professor in the Department of History at the University of Winnipeg.
