This volume gathers sixty-one essays by the New York art critic Clement Greenberg, written between 1957 and 1969. Included are three essays relating to the Canadian prairies: “An Introduction to an Exhibition of Ernest Lindner,” prepared for an exhibition at the Norman Mackenzie Art Gallery, Regina (December 1962–January 1963); “Painting and Sculpture in Prairie Canada Today,” offering observations on the art scenes in Winnipeg, Regina, Saskatoon, Edmonton, and Calgary, with reference to the Emma Lake Artsts' Workshop; and “Introduction to a Group Exhibition in Saskatchewan,” concerning the Diamond Jubilee Exhibition of Saskatchewan Art held at the Norman Mackenzie Art Gallery, Regina (October–December 1965).
