Arab Cooking On A Saskatchewan Homestead : Recipes And Recollections

Born to Syrian immigrants who homesteaded in southwestern Saskatchewan during the 1920s, Habeeb Salloum grew up on the Canadian prairie amid the hardships of drought, dryland farming, and rural settlement during the Depression. Raised on a homestead established by his parents after their arrival from Qaraoun in the Beqaa Valley, he drew upon childhood memories of farm life and the culinary traditions his family carried from the Middle East. 

Part memoir and part cookbook, this volume combines more than 200 recipes with recollections of family and community life on the Saskatchewan prairie. Alongside traditional Arab dishes and adaptations suited to prairie ingredients.
