The Saskatchewan School Trustees’ Association (SSTA) was a provincial organization representing locally elected school trustees and providing a collective voice for Saskatchewan’s school boards. In this history, Lyle I. Thorson traces the association from its founding in 1915 through 1985, examining its changing role, activities, and relationship with education governance in the province.
The book is divided into three periods: the organization’s early development from 1915 to 1952; its expansion and increasing range of services from 1953 to 1967; and its consolidation and reorganization from 1968 to 1985. Among the subjects discussed are the proposed association building, the controversy surrounding the 1978 Education Act, and efforts to restructure the organization. Thorson, a longtime SSTA employee, draws on archival research, interviews, and his own experience. The volume also includes the SSTA’s 1985 Code Of Ethics For School Board Members.
