Notes

Albert Johnson, known as the “Mad Trapper of Rat River,” was the subject of one of Canada’s most dramatic manhunts. In the winter of 1931–32, after allegedly shooting an RCMP officer near Fort McPherson, NWT, Johnson evaded capture for 48 days across 240 km of frozen wilderness. Despite extreme conditions and a massive police effort, he remained elusive. Two more officers were wounded, one fatally, before Johnson was finally killed. His true identity and motives remain unknown.
